Firm Overview
Rankin, Landsness, Lahde, Serverian & Stock was founded in 1898 in downtown San Jose, and has grown and changed along with the community and new technologies ever since. Our counsel have always provided a broad spectrum of legal services to a wide variety of individuals, businesses, and public entity clients, many of whom have been with us for decades.
The current members of the firm continue the longstanding record of excellence in all aspects of legal work, including but not limited to litigation. We have achieved outstanding results in thousands of jury trials, arbitrations and settlements in virtually every type of civil suit, including major injury and death, corporate disputes, employment litigation, civil rights and public entity litigation. Our record has prompted requests by other law firms for training and guidance, and by the courts for assistance with settlement conferences and arbitrations, and firm members have frequently been asked to serve as judges pro tempore and as arbitrators, and have taught numerous aspects of litigation to a wide variety of audiences.
Our presence has also always included a substantial component of transactional and non-litigation matters, including in particular estate planning and corporate work. That continues to be true today. We have provided countless clients with assistance in will and trust matters, as well as tax planning and estate protection, and have offered many seminars and provided other educational assistance in these and related fields.
Initially known as "Rankin & Oneal," the firm has always been very active in the community and the legal profession, and has included among its members numerous alumni who have been asked to serve both on the bench and in public life. Distinguished attorneys and jurists who have come from the firm include Maurice J. Rankin (1888-1975), the Honorable William F. James (1875-1966), Arthur G. Shoup (1880-1942), Hugh Stuart Center (1905-1977), the Honorable Marshall S. Hall (1908-1990), Honorable John E. Longinotti (1914-1992), the Honorable William A. Ingram, and G.
